About us:
2004 was truly a historic year for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. With North Atlantic
Treaty Organization (NATO) accession in March and European Union (EU) membership in
May, 2004 will be remembered as the year that the Baltic States returned to Europe,
after a difficult transition from Soviet occupation.
The Midwest Baltic Coalition (MBC) was formed more than four years ago to lobby and
work toward the admission of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania into NATO. The MBC is proud
of the small part we performed, in assisting the Baltic States in their return to Europe
and full membership the community of sovereign, democratic nations.
National Baltic organizations, such as the Joint Baltic American National Committee
(JBANC) www.jbanc.org are
developing a Baltic-American agenda for the future. The MBC will continue to support
activities in the Midwest that further this effort. This agenda includes: support for
the Victims of Communism Memorial www.victimsofcommunism.org/ in Washington, DC,
support for democratic processes in Belarus and countering recently, even more strident
rhetoric emerging from the Russian Federation.
This is the beginning of a new hopeful, exciting era. Please join us!
